Playing on the Porch in Rockville Centre canceled

The Rockville Centre Chamber of Commerce has canceled the second annual Playing on the Porch after planning to hold the event on Sept. 12.

Organizers said the cancelation came from authorities over concerns about large crowds gathering. However, Chamber president Brian Croutier said the event would have enforced social distancing and wearing of face coverings.

“We didn't think it was going to be an issue,” Croutier told the Herald. “People go to the beach and to parks. It’s not like we were going to be enclosed in a room.”

Before the cancelation, the Chamber had registered more than 30 houses hosting musicians for the event. Last year, the family-friendly gathering drew neighbors out to hear music at 24 different houses across the village.
