Handful of school districts go remote, while most close amid snowstorm

Posted

While most school districts within the Herald Community Newspapers coverage area closed on Friday because of snow, a handful — including Baldwin, Freeport and Malverne — switched to remote learning.

The National Weather Service said an overnight storm dropped three to six inches of snow across Long Island, with areas across the South Shore, including Merrick and Seaford, reporting a half a foot of snow.

Road conditions were described as icy and snowy, with many side streets remaining to be plowed as of 7 a.m. Friday. Snow was expected to taper off between 8 and 9 a.m.
