Healing shop offers ‘charming’ experience for all

At Charmed Eclectic Healing Shoppe, there is a little something for everyone.

The Bellmore storefront was opened in December of 2020 by East Meadow residents Lori McGuire and Ilana Slavin. Patrons can browse a variety of holistic healing products, as well as participate in individual psychic readings, and a variety of classes and other services offered. They had a storefront in East Meadow, which opened in February of 2020, but they decided they needed more space, and settled on the current location later that same year. 

McGuire, who is a psychic medium and certified in Reiki met Slavin, who is also Reiki certified, a yoga instructor and massage therapist at their shop, through a mutual friend in 2017. Reiki, as explained by Slavin, is an ancient Japanese practice that involves the transfer of universal energy from one person to another. Since they are both certified, they can train and teach others the practice as well. 

Walking around the store, patrons will find a variety of products, including jewelry, candles, essential oils, crystals and lotions, many of which are locally made.

“A lot of the stuff that we sell besides the crystals are things from local businesses,” McGuire said. “One local mom makes the crystal candles — another local mom makes a lot of the bracelets. We’re supporting local business and we get new stuff in all the time.”

They dubbed the store as “eclectic,” because of the constant variety in products.

Aside from shopping, Charmed offers other services, such as massages, which Slavin performs. For medical massages, Slavin said they take insurance from the New York State Health Insurance Program (NYSHIP).

Those interested can schedule individual psychic readings with McGuire, tarot card readings, or join in on classes.

“We hold a lot of classes,” Slavin said. “We have a weekly Tarot Tuesday class. We’ll do weekly Reiki trainings [and] a weekly yoga class.”

Charmed has a monthly schedule that they can provide, which would include any additional classes. Often, McGuire said they’ll hold psychic nights, where people can sign up and then meet with a rotation of mediums in 10-minute intervals. 

An exciting new addition to the shop, they shared, are spa services, offered by Veenus on Earth Sensual Spa. With dedicated spa space in the shop’s basement, those interested can call (917) 412-4582 for appointments for Zen facials, hand and foot masks, lip treatments, back facials, scalp therapy and more.

McGuire and Slavin also shared that the shop can accommodate parties, such as bachelorette or birthday parties, where McGuire can do readings, and attendees can visit the shop and receive goodie bags and other products. 

On Monday nights, McGuire hosts a radio show, Charmed Spirit Guides, with fellow psychic medium Shaun Tannenbaum. Listeners can call in to the show at (515) 605-9878 at 6 p.m., to get in line for a free over-the-phone reading. Slavin said the show attracts listeners from all over the country. The show can also be listened to online at blogtalkradio.com — listeners may be prompted to make an account. 

Charmed’s purpose, above all, is to help people and offer a holistic approach to wellness and healing.

“We both kind of had a want to do it right before the pandemic,” McGuire said of opening the shop. “I felt like it was something universally telling us it was time.”

Even though they started at the East Meadow storefront, they built a strong customer base and made it through the initial pandemic shutdown.

“In less than a year, we came here to a much a bigger, and better, more locally desirable spot,” Slavin added. “We upgraded and graduated during the pandemic.”

Charmed, which is located at 305C Bedford Ave., is open on Tuesdays, and Thursday through Sunday.
