On Sunday, residents gathered at the Village Green in Rockville Centre in front of the recently renovated 9/11 memorial to continue their promise to never forget the lives lost on that fateful Tuesday morning in 2001. Residents lit candles to commemorate the nearly 3,000 people that died that day, including 49 from the village. more
Low-lying areas of Glen Cove are still recovering from flood damage two weeks after what was left of Hurricane Ida pummeled the area. On Sept. 1, water flooded parking lots and basements, causing extensive damage to Police Department headquarters on Bridge Street and the Public Library on Glen Cove Avenue, as well as other areas of the city, prompting a cleanup effort that is still under way. more
Dozens of teachers and hundreds of students participated in OHS' outdoor 9/11 reflection on Friday ahead of the 20th remembrance with a day of special events. Students helped place miniature American flags adorned with paper flowers around the perimeter of the school, visited with retired FDNY member Dave Williams, whose firetruck is now a 9/11 Memorial on wheels, held a moment of silence near 20 American flags, representing the years since 2001, and viewed the flags of more than 50 countries that also lost citizens on that day. more

Jesse Pilnik has been nominated for two NY Emmy Awards, one for Let's Learn NYC (Children/Youth Long Form), and another for Understanding LGBTQ Indentiy: We'Wha (Historical/Cultural Short Form Content). more
Edward Lehman was an avid distance runner. Matthew McDermott enjoyed playing golf. John F. Puckett was an accomplished audio engineer and musician. Joseph Zuccala could entertain a crowd. All four Glen Cove men left behind loving families and friends when they died in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center. Their stories were shared at Glen Cove’s 9/11 remembrance ceremony at Morgan Memorial Park last Saturday. more
With Covid-19 booster shots looking likely, Mount Sinai South Nassau hospital in Oceanside recently conducted a poll to gauge interest in the third jab and opinions on mask use in schools. The “Truth in Medicine Poll” found that an overwhelming majority of vaccinated Long Island and New York City residents said they would get the booster when available. more
