Crash at Atlantic Beach Bridge

The Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department and Nassau County police responded to an accident involving an overturned vehicle at the Atlantic Beach Bridge toll plaza Monday night.

A two-car collision occurred when the driver of a Honda Accord, which was apparently driving northbound in the southbound lane, crashed into a second vehicle, overturning it, according to fire officials.

The driver of the overturned vehicle had to be extricated by firefighters on the scene.

The victim's condition was described by fire officials as serious but stable.

The driver of the other vehicle fled the scene before authorities arrived, fire officials said.
