4 children found in car outside of East Meadow Walmart; Philadelphia woman arrested

Police say a Philadelphia woman was arrested on Nov. 16 in East Meadow, after she allegedly left four children unattended in a car outside of Walmart on Hempstead Turnpike. 

According to officers, a 911 call was received on Thursday morning, reporting that four young childern had been left unattended in a parked car at Walmart. The Nassau County Police Department said officers observed a 7 year-old-female, a 5-year-old-male, 3-year-old male and 2-year-old female inside and unlocked vehicle. 

The officers were able to open the door and an ambulance transported the children to a local hospital for evaluation. 

After an investigation, Ilania Rios, 26 of Philadelphia, was found responsible for leaving her children unattended in the car, and placed under arrest without incident. 

The children were released into foster care services.

Rios was charged with four counts of endagering the welfare of a child. She was arraigned on Nov. 17, at the First District Court in Hemsptead.
