Cedarhurst village justice race is uncontested

After an exhausting 2020 election season that appeared to never end, Cedarhurst residents receive a respite as the village’s March 16 election has only one name on the ballot.

Current village justice and lifelong Cedarhurst resident Andrew Goldsmith is running unopposed for another four-year term as village justice. If elected, it would be his third term as village justice. Her previously serving as acting village justice for nine years.

Goldsmith is the third generation of lifelong Cedarhurst residents. His grandfather Arthur Goldsmith moved to the village in 1934, and Goldsmith’s father was raised in a house three blocks from where he currently lives with his family.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to be in public service with the village that I grew up in,” Goldsmith said. “I wanted to give back and for me, this is a great way to do so.”

The smooth running of court operations is a priority, he said. “Nobody likes to get and pay a ticket,” Goldsmith said. “But when people come in, we try to be respectful as possible, while also getting people in and out of the court as fast as possible.” He added that based on the number of cases, it is the third largest village court in New York state.

Goldsmith said he appreciates the position he holds and has pride in being village justice.

“It’s a real privilege to be a part of the village family and if the voters are kind enough to return me, it will be my pleasure to do my very best to live up to all that they expect,” he said.

Voting is from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., at Village Hall, at 200 Cedarhurst Ave. in Cedarhurst.
