Numerous accomplishments of students and staff were highlighted at the East Meadow School District Board of Education meeting on Nov. 13.

The tunes of the W.T. Clarke High School Saxophone Quartet and East Meadow High School Brass Ensemble provided entertainment throughout the evening. Director of Art and Music Kelly Gelfer and Chairperson Steve Engle led the student musicians through multiple selections.

The board and Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Card Jr. recognized students from Woodland and W.T. Clarke middle schools as “Terrific Kids” for the months of September through November. Terrific Kids is a student recognition program sponsored by the East Meadow Kiwanis Club that promotes character development, self-esteem and perseverance. Kiwanis President Gary Fromowitz joined middle school principals, James Lethbridge and Stacy Breslin, to present students with certificates of recognition. All in attendance applauded the students on this noteworthy distinction.

In addition, W.T. Clarke High School football coach Tim O’Malley earned praise from the New York Jets as its High School Coach of the Week. A longtime coach, teacher and former student in East Meadow, O’Malley’s accomplishment acknowledged his dedication to the game and provided the high school with a $2,000 award.
