EMFD takes on car fire seven hours into 2021

At 6:45 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2021, radios alerted firefighters of Engines 1, 2, and Ladder 1, for a car fire on the Meadowbrook State Parkway, north of Hempstead Turnpike.

Within minutes, EMFD Chiefs were on the road, soon followed by all three fire companies.

First arriving Third Assistant Chief Philip Fertitta radioed to all units of a "Working car fire.”

First due Engine 612 soon arrived on the scene quickly stretching an attack hose line to the fire with water from their on board water tank as Engine 611, and Heavy Rescue 616 arrived with additional manpower to assist.

Within minutes all visible fire had been knocked down. Although the fire was held mostly to the engine compartment, the vehicle was declared a total loss.

There were no injuries reported.
