Four graduating seniors receive chamber scholarships

Four graduating seniors in the East Meadow School District stood out as volunteers, role models and scholars over the past four years. For their achievements, the East Meadow Chamber of Commerce has awarded them each with a $1,000 scholarship.

To qualify for the scholarships, outgoing seniors needed to write an essay exemplifying their strengths and submit it, along with a letter of recommendation, to a committee of judges, which was chaired by Christine Mooney.

Amid the pandemic, the East Meadow Chamber Scholarship Committee worked diligently reading over applications from students at East Meadow and W. T. Clark high schools. After reading, the scholarships the committee scheduled a Zoom meeting to discuss the applications.

The recipients include Wolph Christopher Maignan, Mateusz Pienkowshi, Marlina Buffolino and Eren Sonmez. Maignan is graduating from East Meadow High School and attending Concordia University next year. Pienkowshi is graduating from East Meadow High School and attending the University of Southern California next year. Buffolino is graduating from W.T. Clark High School and attending Towson University next year. And Sonmez is graduating from W.T. Clark High School and attending Adelphi University next year.
