Halloween Trunk or Treat returns to Baldwin

Dozens of children and their family members made their way to the Baldwin BSA Troop 824 and St. Christopher’s Church’s 6th annual Halloween Trunk or Treat on Oct. 25.

Held at St. Christopher’s Church in Baldwin, the event was held drive-through style in the rear parking lot and incorporated social distancing guidelines to ensure the safety of everyone involved this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Masks were worn, gloves were worn, and candy was given out on trays to ensure a contact-free delivery to delighted, costumed children.

The annual event doubles as a food drive, with all of the donations and non-perishable food item collections benefiting the St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry to help local families.

Cars lined up on Pershing Boulevard and entered the parking lot at the gate. Troop 824 Scouts guided guests to trick or treat from the safety of their vehicles.

Scoutmaster Larry Vodopivec said he was inspired by the many birthday car parades that have become popular during the pandemic.

“This year, with Covid, we are making sure we are socially distanced with the drive-through, trying to make sure everybody stays safe,” Vodopivec said at the event. “Masks, gloves, everybody staying distanced apart. Hopefully we still celebrate our Halloween season and keep things going for next year.”
