Posted

Davison Avenue Intermediate School fifth grade students of the Malverne School District were honored at Malverne Village Hall for winning the annual essay contest on June 14.

Kaylee Williams, Leyla Montrose and Hencky Lee Jean-Paul were selected as the contest winners after submitting original pieces describing what the American Flag means to them. Kaylee earned first place, Leyla finished second and Hencky placed third. The students were gifted their own flag and received a certificate of recognition.

As the first-place winner, Kaylee read her essay to the audience where she described how both her parents immigrated to the United States to pursue the American dream.

Village leaders and members of Malverne American Legion Post 44 honored the contested winners.
