Nineteen Scholar-Athlete teams named in district

Nineteen teams from East Meadow and W.T. Clarke high schools in the East Meadow School District are Scholar-Athlete teams, as named by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. To receive Scholar-Athlete recognition, the team’s average GPA for 75 percent of the roster must be greater than or equal to 90 percent.

Nine varsity teams from East Meadow High School were recognized as Scholar-Athlete teams. They were the boy’s cross-country, boy’s golf, boy’s volleyball, field hockey, girl’s cross-country, girl’s soccer, girl’s tennis, girl’s volleyball and girl’s swim teams.

Ten varsity teams from W.T. Clarke High School were recognized. They were the cheerleading, boy’s cross-country, girl’s cross-country, field hockey, football, boy’s golf, girl’s soccer, girl’s tennis, boy’s volleyball and girl’s volleyball teams.

“We are very proud of our teams for being honored as Scholar-Athletes,” said Kristi Detor, the district’s director of physical education, health and athletics. “This recognition exhibits their commitment to hard work on and off the field.”
