Kids & Teens Martial Arts

Rebel Thaiboxing is offering a Kids & Teens Martial Arts class on Saturday, Jan. 25 at its location at 2343 Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow. The coaching staff is focused on bringing out the best in each and every student. The program, for students ages 4 to 13, aims to specifically help children who may need extra activity, are overweight, are victims of bullying, need to improve focus and attention, want to compete in a physical sport, love martial arts or just want to get the most out of life. Tickets are $20. Arrive 10 minutes before the class, which goes from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Icebreaker Marathon and Half-Marathon

Although it’s January, you would be probably be going out for a long Sunday run anyhow, so why not do it at Eisenhower Park with some congenial company? The Icebreaker Marathon and Half-Marathon returns to Eisenhower Park on Jan. 26. The marathon is from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the half-marathon is from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Start and finish near the Eisenhower Park Fieldhouse. Packet pickup and pre race registration for $35 will be available on Jan. 25 from 11 am to 1pm at the Greater Long Island Running Club, at 101 Dupont Street, Suite 24, in Plainview. There will be overall awards for the top male and female in each of the marathon and half marathon. There are no age group awards, but there are unique medals for each finisher of the half and full marathons. Parking is available in parking fields 1 and 2, and packet pick up will take place in a tent next to the Fieldhouse from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Race day registration will be available for $45, cash or check.

Li Liu Celebrates the Lunar New Year

Join the East Meadow Public Library in celebrating the Lunar New Year with the incomparable Li Liu Chinese Acrobat. She is an award-winning entertainer who has performed all over the world. She is back to share her talents, knowledge and love of life on Sunday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. at The Samanea New York Market, the former Source Mall, in Westbury. She might even teach you a few tricks.
