Far Rockaway man arrested for alleged car robbery spree in Hewlett, Lynbrook

Nassau County police arrested Darion Torres, 23, from Far Rockaway, for an alleged robbery spree that stretched from July 27 to Aug. 8, allegedly robbing nine different cars in Hewlett, Hewlett Bay Park and Lynbrook.

Police said that Torres was “a person of interest for several larcenies from autos in the area, he was stopped by Fourth Precinct officers on Westwood Road in Woodmere on Aug.8. The subsequent investigation found that Torres, “was in possession of a stolen laptop computer and a green colored vaporizing device containing a substance believed to be THC, 26 wax paper envelopes containing a tannish brown substance believed to be heroin and was placed under arrest without incident.” He also allegedly stole money and credit cards from the vehicles and stole a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

According to police, Torres alleged spree included:

A Toyota Rav 4 where four items were allegedly stolen on Farnum Street in Lynbrook at 1:55 a.m. on July 27.

A 2016 Dodge where assorted items were taken on Evergreen Avenue in Lynbrook at 2 a.m. on July 27.

A 2014 Toyota Rav 4 where four items were stolen on Surrey Commons in Lynbrook at 4 a.m. on July 27.

A 2000 Honda Accord where an unspecified amount of items were taken on Peninsula Boulevard in Lynbrook at 5:02 a.m. on July 27.

A 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee was stolen on Meadowview Road in Hewlett Bay Park at 9 a.m. on Aug. 3.

A 2018 Range Rover where an unidentified number of items were stolen on Crystal Court in Hewlett at 11:55 a.m. on Aug. 3.

A 2019 Kia Sorento where an unspecified amount of items were taken on Franklin Avenue in Hewlett at 7:15 a.m. on Aug. 8.

A Toyota pickup where an unidentified number of items were stolen on Franklin Avenue in Hewlett at 10:40 a.m. on Aug. 8.

Torres, is charged with one count of grand larceny third-degree, seven counts of grand larceny fourth-degree, one count of attempted grand larceny fourth-degree, one count of unauthorized use of a Vehicle, eight counts of petit larceny, one count of criminal possession of stolen property fourth degree, six counts of criminal possession of stolen property fifth-degree, two counts of criminal possession of stolen property seventh-degree, two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument.

His next court appearance is Aug. 14. Torres is represented by the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County.
