Friends and colleagues hosted a retirement car parade May 13 for Mary Malloy, a longtime Baldwin School District employee who was diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer in September.

Colleagues said she worked at the district for 46 years, including 35 years at Baldwin High School as a secretary in the attendance office. She officially retired May 15 due to her condition.

More than 150 cars, most displaying colorful and affectionate messages, gathered at the high school at around 11 a.m. and made their way to Rose Boulevard, where Malloy lives, with a police escort and a fire truck. D.J. Dina Testa, accompanied by her husband Dr. Neil Testa, the high school principal, donated her time and played music for the retirement celebration.

Leading the parade was Schools Superintendent Dr. Shari Camhi and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Michelle Gallo, friends said.

“Spreading the love in her community along with her family and friends all gathered to share this joyous day made her very happy,” said Bridget Famularo. “Mary means the world to me. We’ve been best friends since I walked into the doors of Baldwin Senior High School in 1988.”
