asmin Moghbeli, NASA astronaut from Baldwin, visited her hometown and Baldwin schools to speak and interact with students on March 13.

The school district said Moghbeli, a former Baldwin High School graduate, visited the Baldwin School District to collaborate with students and inspire them to explore a career in the sciences. The district said it was at Lenox Elementary School, where Moghbeli was inspired to become an astronaut after completing a book report about a female astronaut in the sixth grade.

The school district said Moghbeli visited Lenox Elementary School, dressed in her space suit, to take part in a Balloon Rocket Challenge with young fourth and fifth graders. In the challenge, they explored concepts like lift, and thrust.

Moghbeli then visited the Baldwin High School and met with students on a plane design challenge, and a discussion STEM and engineering careers. She then joined students in the high school’s learning collaboratory and answered questions by students and staff.

The school district said Moghbeli graduated Baldwin High School in 2001, and the NASA Candidate program in 2020. According to ABC 7, Moghbeli will travel to the International Space Station in August as the commander of Crew 7.
