Bounding off the LIRR train at the Lynbrook Station, there may not have been a more enthusiastic mass transit advocate than the president of the Long Island Railroad, Rob Free.

His purpose was to tour Lynbrook’s new luxury transit-oriented development, the Langdon, which features 201 luxury rental apartments adjacent to Lynbrook’s Long Island Railroad Station and moments from the Village’s vibrant downtown.

A staunch advocate of transit-oriented development, Free recently told reporters, “Transit-oriented development is a smart bet for all involved. It connects customers to LIRR’s record-breaking reliable service to the east and west sides of Manhattan and all the way to Montauk, while promoting sustainable growth and addressing local housing needs.”

Mr. Free was intent on seeing what the $100 million Langdon offers as the latest transit-oriented luxury development along the railroad’s south shore Babylon branch now observing its centennial.

“There are very few other luxury rental, amenitized, residential properties in Nassau County that combine and offer both The Langdon’s extraordinary transit access and centralized location with abundantly convenient transit to Long Island beaches and New York City.  As a full-service luxury rental building, The Langdon features rooftop NYC skyline views, while offering a downtown and Village-oriented feel,” stated David Orwasher, Chief Development Officer at Breslin Realty.

Vitality, access, and quality of life

Speaking to colleagues during his Langdon tour, Mr. Free reminded, “Transit-oriented development is critical to the vitality of Long Island in terms of accessibility, getting to the stations, affordability, and access to good paying jobs in Manhattan. I read not so long ago that one third of all salaries earned on Long Island are from Manhattan so there is that strong bond we have to have with our friends in New York City…and it also helps our local economy as well as it revitalizes it.”

With The Langdon located in the heart of Lynbrook’s thriving “downtown,” residents have access to a one-seat LIRR 35-minute commute to Manhattan with equally convenient mass transit access to nearby JFK Airport for fast getaways to far-off destinations.

Some 68,000 riders pass The Langdon every day. Its advantages have already become apparent to the many commuters who have inquired about residential opportunities.

Lynbrook’s easy access to the region

Lynbrook Mayor Alan Beach greeted LIRR’s Rob Free in the lobby of The Langdon, telling him, “With its full amenities, this beautiful building fits right into our village. It’s a great place to live, it’s a safe place to live, and with the transportation to Manhattan, the beaches – and a branch that can take people out to Montauk – from right here in Lynbrook, you can go all over the island. It is an enormous asset for everyone who lives here. This community welcomed the railroad to Lynbrook in 1867, and it made the village very prosperous then. Once again, I see the transit-oriented Langdon serving the same role as it sits adjacent to the Lynbrook LIRR station.”

 “This beautiful place”

With a smile that offered a humorous aside on the role of The Langdon, MTA Board member Marc Herbst told the recent gathering, “On behalf of the MTA and its chairman Janno Leiber, we are excited and thrilled that (The Langdon) is providing a new customer base for the LIRR.”

Turning serious and insightful, Herbst observed that, “One thing we look at is `journey to work.’  You go beyond the economics. You look at whether people are satisfied in their journey to and from work. It’s important to get on that train and then come back home to this beautiful place. Thank you for building this TOD (transit-oriented development) contribution to Lynbrook.”

For those seeking an elevated life style

The Langdon’s attractions include a welcoming lobby café, concierge services, rooftop terrace with skyline views, a landscaped courtyard with a range of outdoor amenities, a resident lounge with billiards, a state-of-the-art fitness center, dedicated work-from-home stations, and more.

Individual apartment features include floor-to-ceiling windows, in-unit washer/dryer, walk in closets, spacious kitchen with stainless steel appliances, luxury wide-plank flooring, welcoming bathrooms, ALL with thoughtful layouts designed to offer ample storage.
