Police to the cat rescue in Woodmere

When Woodmere resident Anne Fuchs went out to her in the morning of Aug. 30, she heard unusual noises coming from underneath the vehicle.

A kitten was stuck in the undercarriage of Fuchs’ vehicle. Fuchs is not sure as to how the kitten got there, but was alerted by a woman walking by her house. “A woman said that she heard crying coming from my car,” she said. “She looked and saw a little kitten that proceeded to disappear underneath the car.”

Fuchs described trying to rescue the kitten as an all-day event. “I first discovered the cat under the car around 10 a.m. and all day, I was trying to lure it out,” she said. “I put food around the car, kept banging on the car. I could hear the kitten moving under the undercarriage of the car, but it just couldn’t get out.”

Fuchs needed her car. “This rescue was going on for about six hours and this happened the same day that my daughter was given birth to my granddaughter,” she said. “I called animal services and they said they couldn’t do much unless the kitten was getting tortured. So I proceeded to call the 4th Precinct.”

Two 4th Precinct officers responded. Then two more responded. “They were working on rescuing the cat for an hour and then they called for backup,” she said. “They started taking apart the engine of my car to get the cat. They finally got it out around 6 p.m., and it was so nice to see it rescued.”

Fuchs said that the kitten was adopted but she’s unsure who adopted it. “I’m really appreciative and happy that everything ended up okay for the kitten that day,” she said. “I thank the 4th Precinct officers for their efforts.”
