Nearly 200 residents, veterans, Boys and Girl Scouts troop members and residents gathered at Baldwin Park on Sunday for the Run for Heroes event, which benefitted Lynbrook American Legion Post 335 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2307, as well as other groups.

In all, the event raised more than $55,000, which will be shared by six local veterans’ organizations. The outing was organized by Assemblywoman Judy Griffin.

“The brave men and women who fought for our country deserve to have their voices heard,” Griffin said, according to a news release. “I was proud to host today’s event to honor our veterans and raise money for those VFWs and American Legion Posts who need it. Thank you to all of our sponsors and runners who made this event possible.”

In addition to the Lynbrook posts, the event will benefit Baldwin American Legion Post 246, Freeport American Legion -William Clinton Story Post 342, Malverne American Legion Post 44 and American Legion Post 303 in Rockville Centre.
