Covert Avenue kindergarteners learn through 'Fundations' lessons

Kindergartners at Covert Avenue School in Elmont are actively learning about how to pronounce and write letters through lessons that are part of the ‘Fundations’ curriculum, a district-wide program designed to bolster the reading skills of students.

Students utilized the ‘Fundations’ method of “Sky, Plane, Grass and Worm lines,” which “assist students in visually differentiating between each line for letter formation,” according to a statement released by the Elmont Union Free School District.

The students learned about “Sky Line letters,” which include ‘t,’ ‘b,’ ‘f,’ ‘l,’ ‘h,’ and ‘k.’ Additionally, classes reviewed the entire alphabet, including vowels.
