Covert Avenue School closed for cleaning, contact tracing

The Covert Avenue School was closed on Tuesday, after Nassau County Health Department officials informed Elmont Union Free School District administrators that a staff member is considered a close contact of an individual who had tested positive for Covid-19.

The staff member has been quarantined, Superintendent Kenneth Rosner wrote in a letter to parents on Nov. 9, and out of an abundance of caution, the school would be closed on Nov. 10 to “conduct a thorough cleaning and enact our contact tracing protocols.” Once the contact tracing is complete, he said, district officials will reach out to any staff or community members who also need to quarantine.

No student or staff member has tested positive for the virus in this case, Rosner noted, and the district will continue to follow all of the coronavirus guidelines and work with the Nassau County Health Department to “take all necessary precautions to ensure the health and safety of our school community.”
