Firefighters from the Franklin Square & Munson Fire Department put out a basement fire at the Polk Street School on Nov. 4, with help from the Malverne Fire Department and the Valley Stream Fire Department.

An automatic alarm at the school went off that night, firefighters from the Franklin Square & Munson Fire Department explained on the department’s Facebook page, and when the chiefs arrived, they saw heavy smoke emanating from the basement. They then requested assistance, and, when searching the basement, the chiefs found a commercial-grade dehumidifier on fire.

It was then promptly extinguished, and crews vented the smoke.
