Man arrested in Elmont after pointing shotgun at police officers

An Elmont man was arrested on Dec. 17 at 5:30 a.m. after pointing a shotgun at Nassau County police officers in Elmont.

When police responded to reports of a disturbance on Hempstead Turnpike, they located the man, Jose Rodriguez, who was involved in the disturbance on the second floor of an apartment building. 

“The subject pointed a black shotgun at the officers from an open window. Officers took cover and where (sic) able to talk the subject into coming outside unarmed,” police officials said in a statement. 

Once Rodriguez came outside the building, he ignored all verbal commands from the officers, prompting the use of an electronic control device to take Rodriguez, 73, into custody. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and further evaluation.

Rodriguez was charged with three counts of menacing a police officer, second-degree menacing third-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of fourth degree  criminal mischief, third degree criminal mischief and second-degree reckless endangerment. 

Rodriguez was arraigned on Dec. 17 at First District Court in Hempstead.
