Plattduetsche honors its mothers, at a distance

The 105 residents at Plattduetsche Park haven’t been able to see their families since the Department of Health ordered all nursing homes to restrict access on March 13. But that all changed on May 10, when the administration surprised all the mothers and grandmothers with a drive-by Mother’s Day parade.

They had reached out to the residents’ families about the parade, Administrator Steven Kordisch explained, who were able to keep it a secret until the big day, when they drove around the complex twice and were able to speak to their loved ones through car windows.

“It was really uplifting,” he said, adding that the mothers and grandmothers at the home “were all thrilled to see their families.”
