Three students in the Sewanhaka Central High School District have tested positive for the coronavirus, Superintendent James Grossane announced on Sept. 25.

Two students at Sewanhaka High School, who are participating in the district’s remote learning program, and one student at H. Frank Carey High School, who is participating in the hybrid learning program, have tested positive, Grossane said in a post on the district’s website.

The student at H. Frank Carey, he noted, has been in quarantine and will not be able to return to the building until completing the required quarantine period. The Department of Health will also conduct contact tracing and notify any individuals who need to quarantine, and the building was cleaned and disinfected last Friday.

The district did not need to take any action on the cases at Sewanhaka, however, Department of Health officials told Grossane, who said that it “has also advised the district that our practice of maintaining six feet of social distance, and requiring the wearing of masks is a best practice against the spread of the virus in our buildings.”

“We are extremely proud of our students throughout the district,” Grossane said, “and they have done an outstanding job with social distancing, hygiene, mask wearing and acting in a responsible manner.”
