Three Elmont residents were displaced by a house fire on May 16.

Police officers responded to the house, located on Circle Drive West, and observed thick smoke coming from a second-floor window.

The three residents, ages 65, 61 and 22, were not injured.

The Elmont Fire Department was assisted by the Floral Park, Valley Stream and South Floral Park fire departments, and 45 firefighters collectively assisted. One fireman experienced blurred vision and was treated on scene after a piece of debris was lodged in his eye, but no other injuries were reported.

Police officials deemed the fire non-suspicious and said it may have been caused by a nearby lightning strike, although the house was not directly struck. An investigation is ongoing.
