An Amityville man was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated with a child in a car in Hewlett at 6 p.m. on Nov. 25, according to Nassau police.

A 4th Precinct police officer saw Jose Pleitez, 41, of Broadway, failing to stay in a single lane while driving a 1999 Plymouth eastbound on Peninsula Boulevard headed toward Hill Road. Pleitez had an 8-year-old girl in the back seat of the car.

After stopping the car, the officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol on Pleitez’s breath and saw that he had glassy eyes and slurred speech. He was then arrested. The girl was released to her mother, who was also in the car, police said.

Pleitez is charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated (child under 16) under Leandra’s Law as well as multiple vehicular violations. He will be arraigned on Nov. 26 at First District Court in Hempstead.
