A Baldwin man was arrested for robbery, kidnapping and other charges on Oct. 15 at around 1:55 a.m.

Mohammed Negadi, 29, of Jefferson Place, was in a car with two female acquaintances, 47 and 44, when they began to argue, according to Nassau County police.

Negadi and the women exited the vehicle and began struggling over a phone, police said. Negadi then jumped into the driver’s seat of the car and began to drive away with the 44-year-old woman in the car.

The 47-year-old woman called 911 to report her car stolen, and Negadi fled the scene before police could arrive.

A short while later, police officers observed the car being driven by the defendant and initiated a traffic stop. Negadi refused to stop and continued driving with the female victim still in the car, screaming for help through an open window.

While fleeing from the officers, Negadi continuously threatened to kill the woman in the car.  He continued driving into the Village of Freeport and struck a tree on South Ocean Avenue, police said.

Negadi fled the scene once again, this time on foot. After a short foot pursuit, he was placed into custody.

Negadi has been charged with robbery in the third degree, kidnapping in the second degree, unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, reckless endangerment in the second degree, unauthorized use of a vehicle in the third degree, criminal mischief in the fourth degree, driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree and multiple vehicle and traffic law infractions.

He was arraigned on Oct. 16 in Mineola.
