Be aware of signature solicitation in Lawrence

There appears to be people aggressively soliciting signatures on the pink-colored absentee ballot application request form in the Village of Lawrence. The form is not an actual voting form.

A Committee for Fair Voting in Lawrence is warning people about the actions of these people. Alex Edelman is the incumbent village leader being challenged by siting Trustee Daniel Goldtstein. The message is sponsored by the Committee for Fair Voting in Lawrence. It is expected to appear as an ad in this week's Herald.

The committee warning statement reads: “We caution you that when you receive your actual ballot to vote, whether delivered to you by this person or another, that you [should] take the time to study the ballot and complete it in private and not in the presence of another [person]. Do not allow yourself to be pressured and do not let anyone else fill out your ballot.”

Voters can mail the completed ballots to the village. “Do not be bullied into having someone else deliver on your behalf,” the warning stated. Absentee ballots are not required and if possible, residents should vote in-person in the village election on Tuesday, Sept. 15 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Lawrence Yacht & Country Club at 101 Causeway in Lawrence.
