After topping the competition in one event, placing second in two events, third in a trio of events and fourth on two others, 15 students from Davis Renov Stahler High School for Boys in Woodmere captured second place out of 13 schools at the annual Science Olympiad regionals held at Touro’s Lander College for Men on March 31.

Hands-on engineering events and written biology, chemistry, physics and scientific-reasoning tests offered students the opportunity to show their scientific prowess.

One of the fun competitions was “Write it — Do it,” where one student wrote down a description of a small sculpture and passed it to another student who tried to recreate the original sculpture using the first student’s instructions.
