Eight inches falls in the Five Towns

Cedarhursty Mayor Benjamin Weinstick said roighly 8 inches of snow fell in the village and with crews beginning work at 4 a.m., the "whole village is plowed and salted," he said. In Lawrence, officials said the roads are clear. "They started at 4 a.m. and did a super job," Mayor Alex Edelman said.

 Town of Hempstead officials said the plows and trucks  are operational. Temperatures are expected to be below freezing, creating the potential for hazardous driving conditions.

"No matter how big or small the storm, America's largest township will always be ready to respond to the forecasted winter weather," Supervisor Don Clavin stated in a news release. "We're still at the beginning of the snowfall season and we will continue taking proactive steps for all winter weather predicted for our area."

The Hewlett-Woodmere and Lawrence school districts are closed Jan. 7. Hewlett-Woodmere closed because of the forecasted snowstorm. Lawrence classes were to be virtual sessions, but the districted opted to go with a snow day with no live instruction or assignments on Google classroom, according to Superintendent Dr. Ann Pedersen.
