At the Islamic Council of North American Relief event at the Five Towns Community Center in Lawrence on Nov. 23, County Legislator Carrié Solages presented a citation to Inwood resident Sasha Young for her work with Gammy’s Pantry.

The pantry and Gammy’s Closest are community-oriented services operated out of the community center by Young and several volunteers, including her daughters, Alexandra and Alexis. Gammy is Betty Young, Sasha’s grandmother, who inspires the volunteer work Young does.

“This citation is for each and every person that has ever volunteered or donated items to Gammys Pantry!!,” Young posted on Facebook. “A year ago I never could have imagined all of the awesome moments we would share serving our community together. Working together we are able to do so much more. Thank you. Looking forward to all of the wonderful things that can be achieved as we continue to work and spend time together!!!:) Thank you Carrié Solages for taking time to recognize Gammys Pantry it means more to us here  than you know. I know Gammy is smiling.”
