Hebrew Academy of Long Beach in Woodmere captures first, third in history regionals

Two teams of Hebrew Academy of Long Beach students from the school in Woodmere finished in first and third in the Junior Exhibit Group at the Long Island Regional for National History Day.

Talia Beck, Rebecca Berg, Rachel Yadgarov, Avtayla Teitelbaum and Nina Plaut took top honors in that category for “The Skokie Affair: Challenging the First Amendment.”

Yoni Schochet, Ethan Ostrow, Menachem Porter and Binyamin Posner took third for “Breaking Engima: The Key to Understanding Nazi Communication.

Teacher Kristen Waterman guided both teams of students.

Both teams of students advanced to  the New York State History Day competition. The virtual contest judging will tale place April 16 to 29. The results will be announced on April 30. Winners advance to the national competition in June, which will be also be held virtually.
