Hello to Remy’s Italian Restaurant in Hewlett

Posted

The Hewlett-Woodmere Business Association welcomed Remy’s Italian Restaurant at 10 Franklin Ave. in Hewlett to the neighborhood with a grand opening ribbon-cutting on Oct. 17.

Remy Kurtaj, who owned Giardinetto on Doughty Boulevard in Inwood for 17 years, runs the new establishment with his brother, Giovanni. The new venue replaces Cucina di Vargas.

Tasting a sampler of items including fried calamari, would lead one to believe that the appetizers — from the traditional baked clams, crabcakes, eggplant rollatini, fried calamari and grilled Portobello mushrooms to the new burrata with avocado and prosciutto on greens and carpaccio of filet mignon — are tasty as well.

The featured entrees are chicken Parmigiana, chicken scarpariello, grilled chicken paillard, broiled pork chop with cherry peppers and balsamic vinegar glaze, grilled strip steak, red snapper with littleneck clams in light tomato broth, roasted rack of New Zealand lamb, salmon in mustard-and-Champagne sauce, shrimp scampi-style with talerini pasta, veal pizzaiola, and zuppa di pesce. Black Angus hamburger with Portobello mushroom, bacon and cheese.

HWBA officials and community representatives helped the Kurtajes cut the ceremonial ribbon and local elected officials presented citations and proclamations.
