Hewlett Elementary welcomes summer

A DJ, two bouncy obstacle courses, science experiments by East Meadow-based Mad Science airbrush tattoos, ice popsicles, goodie bags and other games were all part of

Hewlett Elementary School’s first-ever Summer Jam.

The June 17 event, planned by the school’s PTA, was fully funded by sponsor donations and fundraising by the HES After School Club. “All the teachers really came together and supported the PTA this year,” PTA Co-President Jennifer Gonzalez said.

During Covid and up until the beginning of the school year, it was a challenge for the PTA to collaborate with teachers, Gonzales said. However, for Summer Jam, “all the teachers really came together and supported the PTA.”

“This was a very huge team effort between even the custodial staff,” Gonzalez added. ”The custodial staff does not get enough credit at all for all that they do for these kids. They are, behind the scenes, like the muscle.”
