Longtime Five Towns resident Carole Tolkin receives NCJW award

Carole Tolkin, a longtime Five Towns resident now living in Manhattan, was presented with the prestigious Hannah G. Solomon Award from the Lawrence-based National Council of Jewish Women-Peninsula Section at the organization’s annual Founder’s Day luncheon at the Seawane Country Club in Hewlett Harbor on Sept. 6.

Tolkin’s record of community involvement is a long one that not only includes being a part of the NCJW, and serving in several capacities ranging from board member to a two-term co-president to a one-term vice president. In 2018, she organized the NCJW’s gun violence forum. She was a decades-long member of the Five Towns Senior Center — now the Center for Adult Life Enrichment — and in 2005 Tokin was the Herald Person of the Year for all that she had done.

Founded in 1936, the NCJW-Peninsula Section strives for social justice by improving the quality of life for women, children, and families and by safeguarding individual rights and freedoms.
