A woman said to be homeless allegedly assaulted a Nassau police officer in Inwood on Feb. 25, police said.

Fourth Precinct officers responded to a call that woman was seen “pulling on car door handles and walking in and out of neighboring yards,” police stated in a news release, along Wanser Avenue around 1 p.m.

Police found the woman on Wanser Avenue and as they approached she allegedly was seen throwing a plastic bag over a fence.

The woman, Widnise Occelin, 31, was stopped and then punched one of the officers in the face several time times, according to police. The officer was taken to a local hospital to be treated for facial injuries. Police retrieved the bag and it contained marijuana.

Occelin is charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest, second-degree criminal impersonation, unlawful possession of marijuana and tampering with physical evidence.

She was released on non-monetary restrictions. Arraigned on Feb. 26 in Mineola, her next court date is March 5. The Legal Aid Society of Nassau County is representing Ocelin.
