A 1-year-old girl was rescued from a locked car by two Nassau County police officers near 5 p.m. on July 10 in Atlantic Beach.

The call at 4:47 p.m., on that Saturday, had the pair responding to the scene where the girl was accidentally locked in a car with the windows up and the air conditioner on, according to police, who noticed that the vehicle had automatically shut off with the child inside.

Breaking one of the car’s windows, the officers took the girl from the vehicle. Atlantic Beach Fire Department medics checked the child and determined she was healthy. The girl was released to her family.

Both officers suffered multiple cuts and one was taken to a local hospital for treatment, police said.
