There was a heightened police presence at Wantagh Middle and High School on Tuesday after Wantagh Union Free School District staff received a voicemail that was "threatening in nature."
Wantagh High School's main office staff recovered the threatening message Monday afternoon, according to a district email notice signed by superintendent John McNamara. The district did not respond to an inquiry about the details of the message.
The district proceeded to notify the Nassau County Police Department, which began an investigation, the notice stated. NCPD does not believe the threat to be credible, but police "will continue to investigate", the notice stated.
"Please know that every precaution is taken daily to protect the safety of our students and staff and to provide a secure learning environment for all," McNamara said.
As of Wednesday, Sept. 15, police resumed their normal patrol presence.
