Dear Faculty, Parents and Students,
This past week in school we observed a sudden and rapid spread of [C]ovid, and to a lesser extent the flu. Since the start of the school year, students have benefited tremendously from in-person learning and normal school life, thankfully without a hitch.
The situation that unfolded rapidly during the last week required many students to stay home due to illness or exposure, and the vast majority of others opted to stay home and Zoom during this period. On Thursday, over 75 [percent] of school was on Zoom.
In an effort to stop the spread of communicable disease, keep everyone healthy, and enable everyone to take midterm examinations in person as scheduled, and in practical consideration of the number of students and teachers who are out, we will run school on Zoom only (attendance on Zoom is mandatory) for the next three days. We will email you another update on Wednesday evening.
We hope this brief period serves merely as blip in the success and normalcy we’ve enjoyed over the last 5 months, and that this will keep us on track for in-person midterms so that no one will have to worry about taking exams when they return from vacation.
If your son feels unwell at any point, please be sure to keep him home and have him assessed by a doctor for communicable disease (such as flu, [C]ovid, strep or otherwise) and tested as deemed appropriate, especially during this time with a high prevalence of illness. Please note we have seen a high number of breakthrough cases of Covid, typically but unfortunately not always with mild symptoms. Please keep us informed.
Assuming that the vast majority of students are healthy and come to school on Thursday, we will proceed with our midterms as scheduled. However, please understand that even with these steps, the possibility of postponing midterms cannot be eliminated completely, only minimized. This approach will increase our chances of success for a most expeditious return to normalcy.
