Running Community Chest’s 5K in Atlantic Beach

At least 110 runners lined up and took part in the Community Chest South Shore 5K Run and others were part of the Family Walk that began at Sunny Atlantic Beach Club in Atlantic Beach on Oct. 3.

Woodmere resident Alexander Niyazov, 18, crossed the finish line first in a time of 17:44.89. Jake Greenberg, 21, from Cedarhurst placed second in 18:29.52. Mark Lewis, 35, of Far Rockaway, took third place in 21:04.10. Lawrence resident Leora Mishann, 38, was the first woman to finish with a time of 23:51.94.

Founded in 1931, Community Chest is an organization that helps other groups and institutions, along with individuals in need. The 5K Run is one of its two big fundraisers. The other is an annual dinner that is typically held in November.
