Three top 10 finishes for Lawrence DECA

Three Lawrence High School seniors finished in the top 10 at the DECA State Career Competition in Rochester March 8 to 10.

Ryan Dorestal finished sixth overall in the professional selling category and in the top 10 in his presentation and exam portion.

Tyler Bowers attained a perfect score on his presentation and placed seventh overall in the hospitality & tourism professional selling category.

Emma Urgen finished first overall in the exam portion, in the top 10 of her presentation and 10th overall in the hospitality & tourism professional selling category.

Teacher Mark Albin serves as the  DECA adviser. 

“Our DECA students are incredibly motivated and have consistently done well at these competitions,” Jennifer Lagnado-Papp, principal of Lawrence High stated in a news release. “This year’s group were champions and demonstrated the level of professionalism and dedication that represent the best of our student body.”

DECA was founded in 1946 and originally known as the Distributive Education Clubs of America, the nonprofit Reston, Va.-based group aims to prepare high school and college students — budding leaders and entrepreneurs — for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.
