Two Bronx residents were indicted for allegedly stealing mail from mailboxes in Atlantic Beach village.

Yoli Gomez Osoria, 27, and Andrea Rose Gomez, 28, were arraigned before Judge Robert Bogle on Jan. 23.

They were each charged with: 36 counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument first-degree, criminal possession of stolen property fourth-degree, nine counts of criminal possession of stolen property fifth-degree, possession of burglar’s tools and attempted petit larceny. If convicted, they could be sentence to five to 15 years in prison.

Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas said in a news release that a Nassau County 4th Precinct officer saw Osoria attempting to retrieve an object from a mailbox in front of the Atlantic Beach Post Office on Dec. 25.

“These defendants allegedly tried to swipe outgoing mail on Christmas morning by dangling a glue-coated bottle in a mailbox,” Singas said in a news release. “Quick action by an NCPD officer caught these alleged thieves in the act, and our prosecutors will hold them accountable.”

The glue-coated bottle was filled with an unknown liquid and coated with a sticky substance on the outside, with a white string attached. The District Attorney's office also believes that five people fell victim to the alleged scheme.

Both defendants were arrested on Christmas Day at 2:20 a.m. Osoria fled on foot but was arrested after a brief chase.

Seven sealed envelopes were found, covered in the same sticky substance as the plastic bottle inside Gomez’s purse, and a further investigation determined the envelopes and checks to be stolen.

The defendants were released on their own recognizance and are due back in court on Feb. 14.
