An Elmont man was arrested on March 10 for leaving the scene of an accident at the intersection of Hempstead Turnpike and Evans Avenue.

According to Nassau County police, a 41-year-old female pedestrian was attempting to cross the street on Feb. 22 at 2:25 p.m., when she was struck by a gray 2012 Honda Civic that was making a left turn from Hempstead Turnpike onto Evans Avenue. The driver, police said, fled the scene without attempting to identify himself, while the victim sustained serious head injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

A subsequent investigation revealed that the alleged driver was Daniel Gianotti, 22, of Elmont. He was arrested at his home without incident.

Gianotti is charged with leaving the scene of an auto accident with serious physical injury and tampering with physical evidence. He was scheduled to appear at the First District Court in Hempstead on March 23.
