Gotham Avenue School introduced the Gotham GOAT Award initiative in a news release, which aims to reward students for embodying traits of citizenship and displaying consistent positive behavior. The school said their goal is to foster a respectful and kind school community.
The news release said classroom teachers, as well as support staff — including special area teachers in art, physical education, literacy, library, music, ENL, AIS and speech — are all encouraged to nominate students who exemplify the traits of respect, responsibility, cooperation, kindness, honesty and tolerance.
Throughout the month, the news release continued, staff members observe the students and take note of those going above and beyond to help their peers or be respectful to their teachers. Students nominated for the Gotham GOAT Awards are announced at the end of each month, and receive a certificate to mark their achievement.
“Our goal is to continually inspire students to be positive role models and to recognize and reward the exceptional students who contribute to our school community,” Assistant Principal Kimberly Farina said.
