After several months of singing his heart out on national television, Luke Islam was eliminated from the finals of “America’s Got Talent” on Sept. 11.

“I’m so grateful for all of my @AGT family and especially all the support from the amazing #AGT fans,” Luke, a 12-year-old student at H. Frank Carey High School, tweeted after the live episode aired. “Thank you for everything! And good luck to all the AGT finalists.”

In the episode, Luke was one of only two acts left standing on stage with about 10 minutes to spare — the other was Voices of Service, a military choir that performs to support veterans’ organizations.

“Both of you are incredible artists,” Judge Julianne Hough told them. “You have to keep doing what you’re doing.”

Luke had auditioned for the show twice before he made it to the live auditions in July, when he sang “She Will Be Mine” from the musical “Waitress.” He previously told the Herald that Carey chorus teacher Kelly Tefar helped him prepare for the audition, which seemed to pay off for him because Hough pressed her Golden Buzzer to advance him to the live show.

By the time the episode aired, Luke had gained 9,000 followers on social media, and Sara Bareilles, who wrote the songs for “Waitress,” even retweeted the performance, writing that she was “going to be weeping forever.”

Since then, Luke has continued to display great talent, and received a standing ovation when he sang “You Will Be Found” from “Dear Evan Hansen” in the semi-finals. Once the applause died down, Hough told Luke, “I see a long, long career ahead of you.”

And when he sang “Never Enough” from “The Greatest Showman” earlier this month, Howie Mandel remarked, “I guarantee you, you will be on Broadway.”
