Former member of the New York City Police Department Phillip McEneaney has been appointed as interim director of Health, Safety and Security for the Hewlett-Woodmere School District as of Jan. 25.

McEneaney succeeds Frank DeLeo, who announced his retirement. The appointment was approved by the Board of Education at their Jan. 20 regular meeting.

A member of NYPD for more than 20 years, McEneaney served his last two years on the force as the commanding officer of the CompStat Unit. He analyzed crime data, generated crime-reporting tools to expedite deployment of resources and developed analytical methods for emerging crime trends.

He also served as the commanding officer of the Strategic Analysis Section and in the Office of the Chief of Crime Control Strategies. In the latter role, McEneaney served as the special projects lieutenant and commanding officer of the CCS Crime Analysis Unit.

McEneaney also served the NYPD in the Transit Bureau, Domestic Violence Unit, Manhattan North Grand Larceny Task Force and Manhattan South Grand Larceny Task Force.

“I look forward to serving the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools and putting my years of law enforcement experience to work for this wonderful community,” McEneaney said in a statement. “I will be dedicated to collaborating with district administrators and our security staff to ensure the safety of all students, staff, and visitors to district schools.”

His has also taken law enforcement training on investigating homicides, sex crimes, child abuse and others.

Superintendent Dr. Ralph Marino Jr said that McEneaney’s background with the NYPD would be a positive addition to the district. “School safety and security continue to be a critical component of District operations,” Marino said in a statement. “Mr. McEneaney’s background and training with the NYPD will allow us to utilize the best tools and methodologies to keep our community safe.”
