Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages, accompanied by Legislator Carrie Solages and Valley Stream local Shakeel Rahman, joined community members to celebrate the holy month of Ramadan on March 2.
A news release about the event said the group of volunteers distributed bags of dates and ZamZam holy water outside Masjid Hamza Islamic Center in Valley Stream and Muhammadi Masjid in Elmont.
“Ramadan is a time of reflection, devotion, and community,” Michaelle said in the news release. “By distributing dates and water, we honor the traditions of Ramadan and show our support for our Muslim neighbors.”
The annual distribution takes place during the first weekend of Ramadan, the news release stated, reinforcing the assemblywoman’s commitment to recognizing and uplifting diverse cultural and religious traditions.
She looks forward to continuing this tradition in the years to come, the news release continued, standing in solidarity with the Muslim community and fostering unity within the 22nd Assembly District.
