Seaford students heed a lesson from MLK Jr.

The life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. inspired kindergartners at Seaford Harbor Elementary School to think about their own dreams. They studied the famous Civil Rights leader and learned why there is a holiday in his honor every January.

Students in Marissa Cirillo’s class first read the digital version of “Who Was Martin Luther King Jr.?” They discussed the message of his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, then discussed ways they can make the world a better place. Among the ideas from the young citizens were showing kindness and celebrating each other’s differences.

Then, on Jan. 13, students wrote about and illustrated their own dreams. They wore their colorfully decorated “I Have a Dream” hats that featured the words justice, equality, freedom and peace along with various symbols of friendship and unity.
